Because no matter how many times you get sand shoved in your face, you always come back.

“Come now Hotaru, I’m sure there’s an explanation for all this–”

“An explanation, Hiro?!” The young woman, leader of the Hizoku clan, repeated furiously. “What kind of explanation do you need?! A whole bunch of genin on their way here to take the chuunin exams, murdered, and you need a freaking explanation?!”

The Kazekage sighed and rubbed his temples, even forgetting the fact that he was supposed to be a happy-go-lucky person. In front of him were many scrolls containing reports of the same matter that Hotaru was fuming over. “It is quite odd, really. One team from each village traveling for the chuunin exams killed… except ours.”

Hotaru froze, twirling a long lock of auburn hair, her eyes calculating. “You don’t think…”

Even before the Kazekage could open his mouth, a new voice interrupted calmly.

“That’s kind of hard to believe. All five villages have been interacting peacefully for hundreds of years now.” He arrived in a gust of wind, his light brown hair a bit messed up.

“Kyou,” Hotaru nodded curtly. “Nice of you to… breeze in.”

“Kyou!” Hiro’s eyes gratefully left the reports and landed on the Makai clan’s leader. “Any news yet?”

“A blood summon, Hiro-sama,” Kyou replied steadily, holding up a slightly worn scroll with the Shadow symbol on it. “came to Suna. It’s one of the forbidden ones; the council has also confirmed it. Any explanation why?”

For a couple of moments the Kazekage was speechless. Then… “Someone was after the Shadow scrolls.”

“They must be stupid, then,” Hotaru scoffed. “Though Shadow has many amateur shinobi, the best over there are not to be messed with. Unless that person wants to die, they don’t irritate Shadow.”

“Yes, but it may have been an amateur that was sent to retrieve the scroll…” Hiro muttered thoughtfully. “A blood summon is a specialty of Shadow’s, and requires a lot of the user’s blood… very risky. Most people use it when they’re dying and need something desperately delivered. This may have been the case.”

“Probably,” Kyou nodded in agreement with the Kazekage. “But why would they want to retrieve the scroll from the heavily guarded Shadow village’s archives near the outskirts…?”

Hiro tapped his chin, his dark eyes twinkling. “There have been suspicious killings of civilians and shinobi… this may be something more than your regular bandit.”

“You mean… a missing-nin?” Hotaru asked harshly.

“Indeed. Or maybe even a group of missing-nin.”

The three turned their heads to three new people who had appeared, Hotaru and Kyou brandishing weapons from reflex to protect their leader. However, after seeing who they were, they lowered their weapons warily and Kyou casually threw the scroll to the tallest of the three. “I was expecting you, Xavier.”

The Shadow nin nodded. “Mizuki claimed she saw a blood summon and you know how skillful she is at tracking, Kyou. Kurokage-sama sent us here right away.”

“Yo,” the shortest of the group of Shadow ninjas raised her hand lazily in greeting, her other hand smoothing back her blue-black hair.

Xavier stowed the Shadow scroll into his weapons pouch. “And you all know Komui.”

“How can they FORGET my lovely self?!” The said teen crowed.

Hotaru rolled her eyes. “So much for sending the best over to Sand.”

Komui blinked. “I’m sorry, I’ve gone temporarily deaf in my left ear. Care to repeat that again, dear Hotaru-chan?”

A muscle jumped in Hotaru’s jaw.

“Please forgive Komui’s behavior,” Xavier interjected smoothly. “All this traveling has not been good for him.”

“Whatever,” Hotaru said snippily. “I thought the Hikage was coming for the exams? Should I order the Sand ANBU to escort her here when she comes?”

“There’s no need,” a disgruntled female voiced out. A female walked in through the doorway, removing the hood of her beige sleeveless fur-lined jacket, shaking water droplets out of her long silvery hair, which was in a slightly messy braid. One ninja was by her side, dressed in similar clothing. “Damn weather change. All the ice melts in an instant.” She stomped some partially melted snow from her black combat boots.

“Hiha!” Hiro exclaimed jovially. “It’s so glad to see you!”

“Nii,” Hihari greeted warmly, hugging Hiro. However, her warmth did not last long; her eyes turned icy again. “What’s this I hear about genin getting killed?”

Calmly, Kyou filled Hihari in on everything.

There was silence for a moment.

“Why would the Shadow ninja send the scroll to Sand?” the female Glacier nin beside Hihari asked. “Unless… they thought he was going to come here. And... why would this particular scroll need so much protection?”

“I agree with Haruka,” Hiro said affably. “Something is, indeed suspicious. Why would the Shadow scroll need protection?”

And then all eight high-ranking shinobi felt that weird feeling in the atmosphere, as if…

There was a loud boom.

And then screaming.

Blood flew in through the unopened window of Hiro’s office.

A woman stands on the cliff overlooking the Sand village, her index finger and thumb making a small circle placed in front of her right eye.

“Peekaboo. I see you.”

I truly do not mind what you do with the character, just because one is based off of myself doesn't mean i want control over what he does. Do as you please, it has been a fine job so far.
