VI : vulnerability

the truth and lies are important but what about the inbetweens?

“So...” Komui started blankly. “Where is it?”
“Where is what?” Katsumi replied airily, a true smile plastered on her face. It was obviously showing – her happiness of returning home.
“I think he means the village,” Mizuki answered, blinking.
“Yeah...” Hotaru murmured. “I mean... this is just... a sea of glaciers.”
Itami smirked. “This is why the Hidden Glacier Village is so hard to get to.”
“A genjutsu, maybe?” Mikan supplied unsurely.
“No,” Kyou said confidently. “It's definitely not genjutsu.”
“Definitely not,” Hiro repeated with a small, knowing smile.
“Or the village is really...” Kazune blinked confusedly.
Takashi sighed. “You guys are so slow.”
“The Hidden Glacier village is literally hidden in a glacier,” Haruka finally said. “You see this whole sea of glaciers? Under the water, they are all connected to make up our village.”
“So how do we get in?” Tsuchi asked.
Spyke walked on the thin sheet of ice to the nearest glacier, putting his hand on the ice's surface. “It won't let me suck any water out of it.”
“Of course not,” Katsumi snorted. “We're not called the 'impenetrable' Glacier village for nothing.”
Yukio smiled kindly. “Glacier is protected not only by its namesake but also by advanced barrier and defense systems. It's nearly impossible to get in without permission.”
“Correct,” Kenji said, pushing off from one foot to slide across the ice. “But...” He reached out and let his hand brush across the surface of a particularly small chunk of ice, which melted and left a hole.
“There's a loophole to everything.”

“Wow,” Mizuki breathed. “This is... wow.”
“Glacier is indeed a very beautiful village,” Xavier commented.
The group of shinobi had entered from the hole that Kenji had found into the hollow village and were pleased to find that the temperature had gotten a bit warmer.
Hotaru, Mikan, and Mizuki had gravitated toward the vendors who were selling everlasting ice crystals that shone many colors in the light while most of the males had instantly taken interest in the ice weapons demonstrations.
“Enough,” Takashi said crossly. “We came to Glacier first for one reason, and that isn't to admire shiny stuff.”
Mizuki pouted. “But... it's so shiny!”
Hihari smiled gently, showing pride. “Yes, after we are finished with our primary goals, we will sightsee.”
“First stop...?” Hotaru prompted.
Haruka grimaced. “The weapons storage.”
“The weapons storage?” Tsuchi repeated blankly.
“Aside from being a nearly impenetrable village with great defenses,” Spyke said, his extensive hard-to-get knowledge coming into play, “Many of the shinobi world's weapons are kept here. Since Glacier is so durable and hard to get to, it also acts as a warehouse for weaponry and valuable items.”
“I see,” Xavier murmured, the machinery in his head working rapidly. “So perhaps we may be able to obtain information on this Project Tri-Angle, if the Glacier village holds top secret information...?”
“I doubt it,” Hihari said. “The Glacier archives are untouched after the works have gotten in there. It's an unspoken rule.”
“But this situation...” Kyou protested.
“It changes nothing,” Haruka said firmly. “We will only go to Sublevel two to retrieve the weapons for distribution to the other shinobi villages for protection against the people that have risen up to threaten us. Nothing less, nothing more.”
“Sublevel two?” Kazune repeated.
“That's where all the basic weaponry is,” Katsumi replied. “Sublevel one would be the village itself. Sublevel three is the more advanced weaponry, sublevel four would be forbidden weaponry, and sublevel five would be the Glacier archives.”
“Then off to sublevel two!” Hiro exclaimed, striking a Superman pose.

“This place is pretty... nice for a warehouse,” Mikan said, running her hand over the thin sheets of ice that cased a pile of katanas.
“Careful,” Kenji said lightly. “Knowing Glacier, if you try to break it it'll give you frostbite.”
Hihari merely smirked knowingly.
“How are we going to distribute these all though?” Komui asked doubtfully.
“Scrolls,” Haruka replied. “We have scrolls around here someplace that allows the user to seal in a whole bunch of weapons. One person here, from each village, will take some weapons in the scrolls with them and bring them to their own village.”
“This place is indeed amazing,” Tsuchi commented. “Who knew it can be so roomy in a glacier?”
Itami shrugged nonchalantly. “We've never worried about what we have been blessed with. We only make fortifications to this village.”
“I'm quite surprised though,” Xavier spoke up suddenly. “You trust your defenses so much that you do not care to implement guards in your warehouses?”
“No, we have chuunin guards patrolling the area.” Hihari's eyebrows knitted in confusion. “They have a route where at least two of them will be at least sixty feet of each other, so they can keep an eye on things...”
“So... where are they?” Takashi asked dubiously.
Itami's eyes darkened. “Hihari-sama...” Her hands opened, revealing an ice rabbit. “There are intruders.”
“What?! impossible!” Katsumi cried.
“Actually, it was quite easy to infiltrate the Glacier village,” a bored male voice commented. “They were right to send me solo.”
“Kai,” Kazune murmured, as the genjutsu flickered and disappeared.
The group whipped around, and Mikan reeled back in horror.
...
...
...
“Impossible,” Haruka exclaimed.
“I told you,” the voice said. “It's quite the opposite.”
The floor was covered with blood, dried blood splattered on the crystal ice walls. A severed head, with a mangled eyeball hanging out of its socket, sat near the nearest case of ice housing weaponry while the body lay a few feet away, its appendages twisted into odd and painful angles. More bodies were in worse condition, completely torn and shredded beyond repair.
“Did you do this?” Hihari demanded quietly.
The voice coming from nothingness seemed to sneer. “They were too slow to even feel a thing, I assure you. I made it painless.”
“You lie,” Itami growled. “I am not a medic for nothing.”
Even as they were exchanging words, they knew the inevitable was coming.
“Now now,” the voice said boredly. “I have no intention of hurting you. I just need one of the Glacier scrolls.”
“Go to hell,” Katsumi spat, disgusted and furious about the slain Glacier chuunin. Her canines were slowly lengthening, becoming doglike.
Haruka's hand twitched towards her katana.
“Well then,” the voice sighed. “We have no choice then. We shall put the 'impenetrable' Glacier village to the test.”
