However, in my opinion his growth of the federal government and pushing of the spoils system is hardly something to recall as great.
And his persecution of blacks quite literally laid the foundation for the civil War. His persecution of Indians lead the foundation of a hundred years of tyranny.
He was a bad president who is celebrated in all the textbooks for reasons of "democracy" when the presidents before him all knew we were a Republic.
