Oh no! The immortality jutsu is DEFINITELY corpse posession. Because Orochimaru sought after the immortality jutsu and he did it by taking over corpses. If you look at his lair it's full of pictures of the Sharingan and what not.

I think you are, a little off the manga chartered zone.
Maybe he was so freaked about the Sharingan Teikiatsu because he knew it was the only true immortality jutsu and that his chance for grasping that power would run out.
I mean, why join the Akatsuki in the first place? Maybe cause he knew that Madara, the only man who can live forever, and Itachi were there?

It is obvious the author has hinted to Tobi being Obito, i.e the name, the mask, the fact that Obito died in the Grass country, and Tobi is from there.
Perhaps Obito is Danzo?

However, I am under the theory that Madara can acquire the tributes of the Uchiha Clan. Possibly as long as the Uchiha clan exists?
Which may explain the Tobi likeness, as well as the guy that Itachi killed (his best friend's name meant mirage and Tobi's attack allows him to disappear like a mirage).
I didn't explain it well, but that's the best theory that seemed most interesting to me.

- IN the manga, he does show that he is Tobi. Madara uchiha that is. And what ACTUALLY is interesting, is how he explained to Sasuke that Itachi was actually trying to protect him, and it was the... mm 3rd? I think, Kage that told Itachi to kill the Uchiha clan.
Anyways, Madara uchiha (Tobi) seems to be using Sasuke to destroy Konoha, which is likely to happen since Sasuke is set out to kill the kage.
To get to the point. DUH. Tobi is Madara uchiha. he takes off his mask and shows him. He even battled the 3rd hokage to see if he could be leader of Konoha because he didnt like the way the Uchiha clan was being pushed around, but the Uchiha clan turned there backs on madara, so he just left the village.

First off Obito is dead, clearly pointed out in the kakashi gaidon.
Pein destroyed Konoha, so Sasuke and Tobi have got owned on that point.
the manga is hinting tobi is Madara, whether him directly or indirectly, Tobi is also the mizukage, so perhaps it is Madara who used the body possesing technique on the Mizukage (possibility)
