You may have a point there, but Itachi in Ch.385 said to Sasuke "... our founder father Uchiha Madara..." and also said that he's inmortal, that's why Madara is still alive. Maybe it wasn't just a few generations, personally I don't think so because Sasuke wouldn't be so shocked to know that Madara was still alive.
