Favorite Decade?

I've been thinking a lot about the decades lately (I don't know why either o.o) and I figured that the sixties and ninties are my favourites. What do you think?

I like to be in the now.

Also the drugs and hippies of the 60's and 70's have no appeal to me.

I loved the Civil Rights movements in the sixties, Q. I don't like the drugs (sXe), and the hippies were pretty over the top. But still. And the ninties! The music! The whole "I don't give a crap" style! And SEATTLE GRUNGE!!!! ^.^

Anyway, I wouldn't want to live DURING the civil rights movement because, hello, that meant people were oppressed! I would rather live after the fact, now, when people are free.

I would have loved to protest segregation! Or be in the AIM! That would have been really fun. Nowadays I can't find anything I want to protest against openly. Well... I'm still thinking about spray painting over some swastikas that other people spraypainted and put 'HITLER FAILED, STOP RACISM!!!".

And why would you love to protest segregation? Wouldn't you be happier to live in a time where it doesn't exist then go back in time to when it did so you can fight it? I mean, that'd be like, I sure wish it was the 1850's so I can be a part of the underground railroad against slavery! But wait, in 2009 there is no slavery, which is even better. ^_^

And there are a million things to protest nowadays. The reason you can't find any is because you are looking for racism to protest, but racism is dying. At least among whites. If anything we have a problem of reverse racism with programs like affirmative action white guilt.

There's plenty of things to pretest against. Racism, animal rights, ect.

Actually, the KKK did fail, LC. I haven't heard about any KKK rallies near where I live, have you? In the 1920's, when the KKK was actually at prominence, they were everywhere. Now, maybe one in ten thousand would even know how to get into the KKK. Yep, real powerful.

Racism? DYING?! Heck no! It's almost as strong as it was back then! When I was at a baskeball game last night, some girl accidentally tripped a girl from the rez team. Well, guess what? It was an accident, but what did the white girl do? SHE DIDN'T CARE. The white poser next to me was laughing and the old bat was talking about how low the college was to accept the best basketball player from the rez team! But guess what? I didn't do anything, as much as I wanted to.

And I'm only 14. I can't protest against anything. The most i've done is scribble on a science pegboard. And everyone does that.

Besides: What about the KKK? And the Neo-Nazis? And the Skin Heads? What about them? Hm? They're as prominent as ever too.

And besides: The Civil Rights movement was for so much more than stopping segregation! It was to create an identity for the minorities of America and all over the world. I would have loved to take part in it.

I'll agree that you don't hear much about the KKK anymore, but you still hear racial slurs. You know? Maybe I shouldn't have created this topic. Bad ending to a bad week. No surprise.

Not every one is a poser. If people honestly believe what Hitler did was right, and act for it, it doesn't make them a poser. Just because they weren't around in the 40's to actually do something :P

It's sad. People still believe racism exists. As bad as it did back in those days?

Question. PeinQ, can you go to a school with other races? Yes, you can. End of that idea. Can Blacks hold public offices? Yes, they can. Can all races go to any college? Pretty much, in fact, they are given preferential treatment.

But it's as bad as it was back then.

Hm? How do you like them apples, huh? So what if people can hold public offices? They're still being descriminated against by some people. You think that you know what racism is. Racism isn't whether or not you can go to a college with an Indian guy or a black guy. That's not what racism is about. It's still as bad as it was then because people are IGNORANT. We're all the same. Racism is discrimination, and as far as I can see, we're all still being descriminated against. I can go to a school with different races, but are we treated the same? Hell no. I get treated different because I'm not white enough. I get treated different in the Indian community because I'm not Indian enough. That's racism right there.
