And yeah, it's definitely more than a gamers thing though... noob more or less came from newbie, which newbie is a term used to describe someone new to something a first-timer, noob came to be used by people who were not neccessarily new, but had the same or less knowledge about something as a newbie... therefore... they are treated poorly in most places. Seen in a lot of games, and sometimes forums.
