The DBZ live action was more like Dragonball, not so much Dragonball Z, I thought. It's where he learned the Kamehameha, he was technically fighting Piccolo's father, etc... These events occured before the events of DBZ. He wasn't even with Chichi at the time, it was where he met her.
They drastically changed the personality of the characters. Master Roshi is supposed to be a perverted hermit who lives by himself on a small island, and takes things seriously when it calls for it. The LA basically turned him into a religious Miyagi.
There was a bunch of other things just completely wrong with it. If you don't watch the series, you could find some interest in it. But seriously, if you didn't watch it, I doubt you'd want to watch the LA.
Problem with certain anime being put into Live Action is because, some things you just can't do without spending a fortune, and it still looking kinda crappy. Kare Kano would be an anime to turn into a LA without having to sacrifice that, save for random cute scenes.... I wanna see LA films show a chibi. O-o
