You're talking current screen resolution (Perhaps to attain more commonly used screen resolutions?), not the highest resolution the screen can handle?

I have a laptop that doesn't work past 1024x768 (Compaq Armada 1750, from 1999 I think. It does go to 1280x1024 with the Win XP drivers, but when it's higher than 1024x768, it scrolls. It only displays the 1024x768, and the mouse will reveal the rest, while hiding others. Not that it doesn't work, it's just far too... headachy).

My desktop is 1280x1024 (Not sure what model, but it runs Win XP, from 1994 ish). Edit: My desktop generally uses two monitors. The other one sticks to 1024x768. So it's kinda like an L shape when I take the whole thing. lol

My laptop here goes to 1366x768 (Compaq Presario CQ62, recently obtained. Runs Windows 7).

I use those for each computer.

For those who can't find it, or if the screen shot of your screen isn't working, you can right click on your desktop, and go to either "Properties" or "Personalize." I know Win 7 has an option for Screen Resolution, just click there. Should be found easily enough in the control panel through "Display." A bit of searching on the screen otherwise will help you find your resolution.

And remember that your drivers for these things can be updated (depending on whether or not it already has) if you're not comfortable with the screen res currently.

If the picture is in the same ratio as the screen res, it could be stretched and look just fine. Other times, if the background of the image has a solid background, the background of the screen can be modified, and then the picture set to center.

That's what I did with this former image I used to use for my desktop. Just set it to black, and the image to center.
