These are not happy stories by any means. But there is one story that I thought met the grade. Not because its sick, like Death's story.
You see, a man, in broad daylight decided to grab a girl right out of a Wal-Mart and take her somewhere to have his way. So he grabbed a young girl and started walking out the door with her. Everyone in Wal-Mart watched him do it. I am sure some of them looked around and said, "Why, someone should call 9-1-1!" But no one did anything. He just walked into the Wal-Mart, spotted his girl, and started walking out. The whole time, the girl was screaming to the world. Someone, anyone, save me. And people. Just. Watched.
As this man approached the door there was a small comcast advertizing stand there. And one man saw this child molester heading out the door with his prey and tackled him. Yes, a heroic story in and of itself, am I right? That one man braved the other dozens of Wal-Mart employees, the 'Wal-Mart Security', and every other shopper there. But there is one reason why this man is a head above the rest.
That is because when this man tackled him, he had to jump out of his wheel-chair to do it. That's right, wheelchair. Paralyzed in his legs. This man had more guts than anyone in that store. And this girl's life was likely saved from being completely ruined thanks to this man's bravery. While everyone else sat there and watched. He stood up (metaphorically...) to this criminal.
And that is why I vote him the hero of the year.
