That is known as a scalar. 5 m/s East represents velocity because it has a direction. The Standard Internationale (SI) system is the basic units of measurement used gobally. in this case it is meters/second (m/s). Delta is greek letter. it looks like a triangle. It means "the change of" So Delta X is the "change in displacement" from X initial to X final. You divide Delta X by t, which is the time that has elapse, measured in seconds.
