Adults always talk about how life isn’t fair
People can be cold; they’re not obligated to care.
Everyone accepts the fact that our world is gray,
But my question is this: Why is that okay?
Your parents always tell to never give up,
Half-full is how you should see the cup.
But when the light is distant, they give up to the night,
And my question is this: Why is that all right?
They tell us, “do as I say, not as I do”,
But why should we be treated differently than you?
The fact that we’re young locks us in their cage,
It’s just another way of discriminating: age.
When we ask our questions, it’s: “maybe another time”,
But they always expect us to turn on a dime.
Adults automatically expect respect from you,
But we have to earn theirs, so they should earn theirs too.
Everyone pays back his or her petty tiffs,
Even those Great Adults, no ands, buts, or ifs.
They think they’re so much better? Open your eyes,
You should act your age, not your shoe size.
