Maybe that's how you write the pronunciation, because if you, an English speaker actually pronounce it you would pronounce the E like a normal english e, when in Spanish the e is pronounced like /eh/.
So maybe your teacher wasn't that wrong. It is said /Engles/ but it's written Inglés.

My spanish teacher was so boring I fell asleep during her classes, so I choose french instead :3

french is soo boring and learned spanish much faster than french
