Can someone give me a definition of absolutism and its political systems? I'm a week and a half late starting history (I dropped out of french), so I am very lost ^^;

Re: Social Studies/History
Absolutism is probably refferring to the monarchies when the crown had all the power. No power of the feudal lords, the Papacy or Church, etc could interfere with their ultimate saying.
That's what it means in European history.
It's political systems were the idea that Kings were ordained by God, and it desolidified the idea that Pope had the final say and moved it to the power of countries. This also may have affected Nationalism and it's earlier forms.
Hope that helped?

Ooops! I didn't know you posted that here! I feel I let you down.
I know tons about the slave trade but GL there is more then one slave trade. Do you mean the American Slave trade or maybe the Subsaharan Slave trade or....I mean we have quite a few.
And as for the political system in Canada isn't it Parliamentary?

Re: Social Studies/History
Not so sure about the Arab thing.
Sunni's believe that any heir of the original 4 caliphs (The men chosen by Muhammud and in a lot of ways this split is similar to the split between Catholocism and Protestantism in how Catholocism views the Pope and Bishops as ultimate authorities and protestants believe all called into faith can lead) and pretty much any Muslim can lead the faith.
However Shiites hold true that only one who is heir to the 4th Caliph can lead. They also believe the 12th Imam who disappeared was the last legitimate ruler of Islamic affairs until Ayatollah regained power in 1978 (He was a very large terrorist and one of the fathers of modern day terrorism if you aren't in the know) is one such heir. Shiites also believe (As do possibly all muslims) that the end of the world will occur when the 12th Imam returns. To bring him back he will return when the world is in complete chaos to fix it, and so one way to hasten the end of the World (And with it the power of Muslims who will become supreme leaders over others when it occurs) is by creating chaos (This explains why many terrorists don't care for life because they think it's just how the end of the world works).
Basically Sunni's embraced that anyone can teach and lead a sect of Muslim faith and can lead in political affairs while Shiite's see only heirs of Ali Muhammud's 4th Caliph as real rulers.
Shiites are dominant in Iran but otherwise no real country then that and Sunni's are the much more dominant faith and are pretty much every other Islamic person in the Middle East.
The reason Sunni's and Shiites (And the Kurdz too) matter in Iraq is because while Saddam Hussein ruled Iraq he was a Shiite and Shiites held all real power. But with the turnover of Iraq into a democracy the Shiites lost their power and are now a minority to the Sunni's which they do not like at all. This lead to terrorism and many other atrocities to get themselves Back into power.
Anyway I hope I got all this right. And I know it's suuuuupah late suuuupah sorry.
