Radio: It's a Sound Salvation

Recently someone mentioned video hosting on this site, I believe as an example of something that would slow the site down or as something which would detract from posts should it be implemented. However, I think that a WOTN internet radio would go down well as once it's running people could still be posting while enjoying it. Hence I suggest a WOTN internet radio thing.

Though admittedly the mechanics of getting it started flummox me entirely...

I dunno how it would work either, but it shouldn't really slow down the site, I think... It's just the matter if we can actually host it...

A radio or like a list of songs than can be played for you guys?

what hes saying is a radio which will fail a play list is easier to maintain but then you have to consider what music are you going to play if any it could be good but if your talking more like a radio that may not work

I know there are ways of getting music on the site, many different ways but if you also want a radio host, in which case the normal music players wouldn't excatly work, that would be difficult.

Actually, if got someone to record their voice along with music we could convert it into an mp3, but it's wouldn't be live or anything

I never pictured it being live, everything would be pre-recorded. Also normal music players such as win-amp and itunes play internet radio (of the kind I was picturing in that it's a playlist with pre-recorded messages) I'm listening to some right now.

Shmeh, just a playlist isn't how I'd thought of it originally but that's probably what it'll come down to because it's just easier that way.

if it was a playlist, it would have to be a pop out one, so the music isn't interrupted by going to a different part of the site

you can do interent radio but you need someone whos willing to set up software on there computer that will eat there resources just for everyone else on site to hear music that means leaving there computer on 24/7 and idk anyone who is willing to do that

also dont forget to look into if you have to pay royalties for every song you play on it

And it continues like that. And if that doesn't sound just dreadful, remember this is preteens, and they are using tons of "uh...." and "Um..." and "Kinda like you knows" for filler.
Plus it screws with peoples heads who just joined the site. Not to mention the site difficulties.

So if we were gonna do a talk show...It'd have to have to be a ways down the road and be somehow selectable.

Moving back on topic.

Playlists are okay, but they are usually just a ton of random songs. You really can't put them on the forum page because you'd mess up the song you are on everytime you refresh. And you'd also have to decide who gets what music?

The idea of doing this as a real radio station still leaves the question of who picks the music, and how is mutable and unmutable and, as Shugo said you'd need heavy software and to pay for the music.

And most people, I truely believe, listen to music while they post (I know I do when I am not watching TV) ^_^

And yes Menchi, I could easily rant a talkshow...I truely could ^_^

if you want something like a talk show just podcast it but again you need to distribute the files thus means you eat your own bandwidth allowing people to dl it or you pay for a server
