Paradox, Fun head games, Or BS? Empty Paradox, Fun head games, Or BS?

Now we all know what a Paradox is, if not, Go look it up. A Paradox has No True answer, If it did, It would no longer be what we call a Paradox. I love them, So why not make a topic about them? Ok This is how its going to work, We put one up, talk about it as much as we can, and then a new one goes up. NO SPAM!

    This one Has me lost.

God is all-powerful, or as theologians put it, “omnipotent”; there is nothing that he cannot do. This is part of the definition of “God”.
So can God create a stone that is so heavy that he cannot lift it? Either he can or he can’t.
If God can’t, then he isn’t all-powerful. If God can’t create a stone that he can’t lift, then there is something that he can’t do: create the stone.
If God can create a stone that is so heavy that he can’t lift it, though, then he also isn’t all-powerful. If God can create a stone that is so heavy that he can’t lift it, then there’s something that he can’t do: lift that stone.

    So?

i say that in this that there is not such thing as an omnipotent god, because if he creates the stone then he cant lift it, then hi is not omnipotent, either way the thought of a god that is all powerful is false

    God is omnipotent.

I have a simple answer for this.

Bano, whenever you need a gigantic stone so heavy God can't lift it, then you may have a problem. Otherwise, I don't see it an issue no?

I mean, this is kind of a waste of time. We need God because he is perfect and to overcome Satan, not to improve our Outrageous Stone Mine quarrying?

    Besides.

I think God can make this stone.

And after he makes it, he will say "See ya stone"

Then he will slice this stone into a bazillion easily liftable fragments of the stone, put it in a bucket, and launch it at a cannon towards the outer reaches.

And when people say "You didn't lift it so technically you didn't follow the rules and that didn't count so you are thus not omnipotent"

God will say "How did a lawyer make it to Heaven?"

Post by Shugo Thu Jun 26 2008, 15:52

The great Greek philosopher Zeno of Elea (born sometime between 495 and 480 B.C.) proposed
four paradoxes in an effort to challenge
the accepted notions of space and time that he encountered in various philosophical circles. His
paradoxes confounded mathematicians for centuries, and it wasn't until Cantor's development (in the 1860's and
    1870's) of the
    theory of infinite
sets that the paradoxes could be fully resolved.
Zeno's paradoxes focus on the relation of the discrete to the continuous, an issue that is at the
very heart of mathematics. Here we will present the first of his famous four paradoxes.

Zeno's first paradox attacks the notion held by many philosophers of his day that space was
infinitely divisible, and that motion was therefore continuous.
    Paradox 1: The Motionless Runner
A runner wants to run a certain distance - let us say 100 meters - in a finite time. But to reach
the 100-meter mark, the runner must first reach the 50-meter mark, and to reach that, the runner
must first run 25 meters. But to do that, he or she must first run 12.5 meters.
Since space is infinitely divisible, we can repeat these 'requirements' forever. Thus the runner
has to reach an infinite number of 'midpoints' in a finite time. This is impossible, so the
runner can never reach his goal. In general, anyone who wants to move from one point to another
must meet these requirements, and so motion is impossible, and what we perceive as motion is
    merely an illusion.
Where does the argument break down? Why?

To Bano's: First one must ask, wtf would God create a rock he couldn't lift? There is such a thing as an irrelevant questions.

To Shu's: Umm...because...numbers may be infinitly dividable, but space is not...?

To Sado's: Who says all love is blind? Besides, this kind of thing doesn't always work.

    6+6 equals 12
12 is a multiple of four

A syllogism with accurate facts will always be correct.

However, the problem is, other than Ray Charles being blind there's nothing provable there. God may not be love and love may not be blind.

    i think paradoxes are BS.
who sits around thinking of ways to challenge reality anyhow?

    i wish people would just live it without questioning it. It makes life confusing and less desierable. -__-;
for me atleast, in my own opinion.
