The village of ice was nearing their destination faster than originally planned. The volcano-nin were rushing to finish the final preparations: securing the women and children in their Kage’s house, setting up barriers, and preparing their ninja for battle. The village would be protected at all costs.
Gust had gathered their strongest ANBU Black Ops, and planned on spreading them out at critical points in the village.
It was here she stood, facing her elite group of shinobi. “ANBU, prepare yourselves! Today, we fight!”
They all snapped to attention. “Yes ma’am!” they shouted back.
Gust swept her arm across the soon-to-be battlefield. “Now go!”
They scattered. With that, it began; the war of the end.
The battles were many, and so were the casualties. Most were faceless ninja from both sides, but some were better known.
Gust was running down the main road of the village, checking on the ANBU. So far, they had lost 3 of the original 15, but she wasn’t worried.
She continued to run, one arm behind her, other clutching her shoulder, covering her only wound. She fought many ninja from the ice village, and had only sustained one wound; a vertical cut on her shoulder. She had been careless; fighting too many at once, and one managed to sneak up on her. Gust knew it was in danger of being infected, but there wasn’t time to stop.
But Gust did skid to a halt when she was intercepted by an ice-nin, who eyed her injured arm and smirked.
The enemy drew a kunai and poised it in front of him, ready to attack. “Stop and fight!” he yelled.
Gust titled her head. “You sure?” she called back. “Don’t take me lightly.”
The smirk never left his face. “Just don’t die too soon, ‘k?”
She scoffed. “I should be saying that to you.”
“Just hope you don’t mind the cold!” With that, the gray-clothed ninja ran towards Gust, making hand signs, his short brown hair flying around his headband. “Suno- tori no jutsu!” (Snow bird jutsu)
Gust waited until he was fairly close, with his snow bird, a cloud of razor sharp ice in bird form, flying just above him. She then made a few quick hand signs of her own. “Funkazan Reppuu.”
Ice met magma in a violent clash above their heads. In the end, the snow was swept away by red hot wind.
“Good thing we’re near magma,” declared Gust. She looked around, taking in the condition of her home. Many buildings had collapsed, and fires had broken out. With the smoke rising to the sky, blotting out the light, it cast a dark haze on the village. “I could only have done that if we were around it!”
The enemy shinobi narrowed his eyes. “Lucky bitch.”
They clashed once more, but the difference in their powers was obvious. Gust realized how much time she was wasting, and turned her full strength on the ninja, and soon had him pined to the ground.
“Well, that’s enough of that.”
“W-what?”
She kicked him in the head, stopping his stuttering. Already a pool of blood was forming around his head. She looked down at him, scowling. “Just don’t die too soon, ‘k?”
BOOM!
I sat up quickly, looking around for the source of the noise. It wasn’t until later I realized what had happened.
The ninja Gust was fighting smashed into the Kage’s house, leaving a gaping hole.
I was in the house at the time, so I stuck my head out, looking around.
It was then the thought hit me: this war would soon destroy our village, regardless of our efforts.
