I try not to think of much,
But on certain occasions I find myself with you in my thoughts.
With your voice lingering at the back of my mind.
I can see your face all around these walls that I built around me.

I can still never escape and be free like those people outside.
I've protected myself for many years for a situation such as this.
Years of being scared of pain didn't matter.
I thought I could have taken a chance with you,
But once I let my guard down my walls were broken.
And I was hurt again, I should have kept my distance,
And let things be left as they were, instead of taking a step forward.

Emotions should never have been introduced to the human race.
Many have been hurt because of this.
I'd rather just stand here without feeling
And be numb to all the emotion around me.
But that can never be, I stand here mortal with emotion,
In pain just like everyone else.
