if you think about it (in the anime) there are lots of hints at
conspirasies. Right when they are about to head out on a mission, sai
gets a visit from a masked man. he tells him about some mission. Now
they could be talking about the mission to find out information, or a
different secret mission... now the leader of the roots isn't exactly
what i would call a great person. He also dislikes the current hokage.
