Weapons and no tolerance!

According to this report some kid, all a jitter with excitement, brought his show and tell item to school and got suspended. Why? Because it was a knife! Actually, it was a cub scout 3 in one item. The dangers of a knife. The pointy prongs of a fork. And the scary bludgeoning power of a spoon! All rolled into one.

Keep in mind, thirty years ago my dad and everyone he knew took their pocket knife to school with them to show it off. And there weren't that many knifings back then, either.

Now, I wasn't going to post this as a story, but apparently in this article they said a third grader got suspended because their grandma sent her a knife to school. With her birthday cake. Are you kidding me? Yes! She was totally planning to cut people up! Right after they had some delicious cake.

I've already posted before how I think the schools get way out of control. My brother has a mix it up day every two weeks. Where he can sit wherever he wants to at his table. But he has to sit in the same spot every other day of the school year, and can only mix it up at his table. And how is this being justified? Some backwards version of the no tolerance policy.

And another school got put on full lock down the other day because there was a car jacking in the area. Now unless there was plans to run this jacked car over a fence and chase down recess kids, I think that's a bit out of line. But that might just be me.

So what do you think? Think the kid should be suspended? Think the schools are getting out of whack with their safety measures? Well, post what you think.

The lockdown thing happened in high school to me at least twice a year. They never gave our parents any information, though, so the parents were all freaked out thinking there was a crazy shooter loose in the school or something. Nah, there was a robbery five blocks away. Don't worry. But that was a private school?

Schools are taking things way out of proportions. Kinda like airports. Except you can take metal knitting needles and scissors onto a plane, but not toothpaste.

You can't take knitting needles anymore. The airport thing is retarded, because the people who hijacked the planes could of easily still done it under today's standards.

That's pretty unusual, Yoyo. But it still proves that bureaucracy of any kind fails with school.

Really? Maybe they're starting to get somewhat intelligent? Maybe? o_o

Yeah. So school governments need to be rethought. :O

We have lock downs for EVERYTHING. Our recent one was because their was a "supposed" threat of a bomb.
........Now, if they REALLY suspected a BOMB in the building then why were we locked INSIDE!?
Then we had another one because there was a "call" about shooters outside the school.
And THEN, we had another because a kid had a seizure.
We also had one because there was a gang of girls going around to gas stations and shooting people for initiation.

But when a homicidal, maniac father DID barge in and try to take his daughter, whom he did not have custody of, there was no lock down. Hell, they let this dude waltz right in and do it.

Yeah so anyway, I think our school's security is very poor. We have metal detectors and security guards but they don't do anything. Kids could sneak a gun in and not get caught. As a matter of fact, that's happened before.

That being said, nooo. The kid shouldn't be suspended unless he was threatening which he wasn't.

Yes! Schools are psycho and contradicting and dumb and I'm getting sick of them! They're wayyyy out of line.

There's a metal detector at my school. We have to go through them every morning. It's like an airport. You have to put your bag and any other excess metals through the thing first, and then walk through yourself. No weapons xP
