This is an old scammer trick, it's certianly not a new
advent because of Conficker. There are THOUSANDS of companies that
offer you the "best protection" available with their software. They'll
get you to download a free "trial version" that will show you what
infections you have on your computer, but of course "trail version"
means that it won't do much else. You'd have to pay a fetching price
for the "registered" version which would work just as well.
Seriously folks, when it comes to protecting your computer, it
doesn't pay to be thrifty. Go out and get yourself a legitimate
anti-virus program like Norton, McKafee, Trend Micro.. whatever... It's
conjecture who you choose they all have verying success in keeping your
system safe.. But trust me if nobody's heard of the software that
you're trying to download, it's a safe bet that it's a scam.

There are some sites that "pop-up" in your browser and
tell you you have a virus and ask you to install a free virus
remover...which is a virus.
The same site will then charge you to download the tool to remove said virus.
Be careful where you browse.
and a third says
If you have a fairly new computer, and you are using
updated Windows and anti-virus software, you are not likely to have the
bug. If you have it, you will know because you will suspect that your
anit-virus isn't working, and you are unable to access the website for
your anti-virus supplier.
If your computer is infected, and if
your anti-virus is corrupted, you have an option. You can re-format
your hard-drive. Depending on the age of your system, this might
involve using rescue disks or you may have a computer with a built-in
tool that does the re-format process for you. It's as easy as a few
mouse clicks to do. If you have been keeping backups for your data on
another media, you can recover you data easily. If you haven't, then
expect to start over. Your computer will have all of the factory
installed software in place after the process is complete.
Remember, off isn't off. If you are worried about April 1st, turn off your computer, and your modem, which means unplug it.
So bottom line?
it is either complete joke so don't pay attention or two it is really so
don't install anything because there is most likely a trojan or virus in the downloaded package.
